From John Wagner
I really appreciate your input and comments about this complex subject. With just simple logic from my life's experiences, I can never see away to stop people from believing in weird or questionable things ...possibly education through science over many years would work? That will only happen if individual freedoms are not oppressed or restricted by any one religion.

I am with Christopher Hitchens on the Iraq War and believe there were a multitude of reasons [excluding WMD] that justified and sanctioned the need for removing Saddam Hussein. I would say Bush did the humane thing, and didn't need to give credit to God....who never seems to do anything unless you are a believer. Hitchens... http://www.slate.com/id/2238464/

Religions want everyone to think and be like them, and Socialists want everyone to be the same, mundane and equal. The only path to either scenario is total loss of freedom!

We live in a complicated world of humans who don't seem to agree on much at all.......so the best choice is to agree on the right to indivdual freedom.

Keep checking in because there will be more to come on the topic!

John

I like the purpose of this website, and this is a well thought out article. However I can’t condone “ensuring the survival of churches and all cherished beliefs” being good in any society. Beliefs based on a lack of evidence are dangerous to our well-being and mankind in general. Wasn’t it George W. Bush who went to war in Iraq not because of evidence of weapons of mass destruction but because God told him to? When people are raised to believe in things simply on faith (which begins with Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and absolute authority being right), this sets the stage for a lifetime of not questioning things intellectually, and accepting things not based on rational thought and facts. I would like to see a society that emphasizes science and evidence-based living. That will in turn ensure OUR survival.
